About Me

Allow me to introduce myself!

I am a young energetic graphic designer with a passion for typography and the printed page. Known for being well motivated and creative, my objective is to learn new skills and continue to develop existing ones.

Background

Born and raised in Staffordshire, known as the creative county, I've always excelled in artistic subjects at school. I have enjoyed and appreciated art for longer than I can remember.

My love for design started early when I was about 14, although I didn't think about design then as I understand it today. I joined online forums talk about video games, and became thoroughly impressed with some of the signatures and avatars designed by the kids who were lucky enough to own a copy of Photoshop.

Eventually (after countless amounts of blackmailing and begging), I received a copy of Photoshop Elements for Christmas. I learnt using online tutorials, and soon began designing themes for Invision Power Board forums. It didn't take long before I was a well-known designer on their largest resource forum.

As I grew older I realized that I would eventually need to do something to make a living. I wanted a career which I could enjoy, so I decided that I would study towards a BTEC National Diploma in Graphic Design. Following this I was accepted on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at Staffordshire University and it was here that I truly fell in love with design.

I began to learn the importance of layout, composition and other aspects of design through lectures and research of my own. I have expanded my knowledge of the subject by reading books and attending design seminars; I've even visited the Edenspiekermann design studio in Berlin. Interacting with other designers has developed my knowledge, and I've met some influential figures such as Paula Scher, Sarah Coleman, Jonathan Barnbrook, Chip Kidd and Erik Spiekermann.

Beyond Design

In an attempt to humanize myself a little, I'm going to quickly mention my personal interests. I'm a firm believer that work and life is a critical balance, if you cannot enjoy your life then you cannot be passionate about your work.

Fitness and health are important to me, I'm an active member at PureGym (3 times a week when I can!) and I practise Wing Chun Kung Fu. In my downtime I enjoy British sitcoms and sci-fi programs.I love spending time with friends and family, and I make some of the best tea you will ever drink.
